APA-Dakar (Senegal) – Choosing “Reform and Modernisation of the Justice System” as the theme of the national dialogue reflects the importance President Faye attaches to this sector, reports the Government Information Office.
In Senegal, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye launched the national dialogue on Tuesday 28 May at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre (CICAD) in Diamniadio, the Government Information Office (BIG)
reports in a press release to APA.
The theme of this crucial event is “Reform and Modernisation of the Justice System,” with the aim of carrying out an in-depth examination of the judicial system with a view to improving it.
The work, which will be presented on 4 June, will address issues such as the status of magistrates, the organisation and operation of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, conditions of detention, the social
reintegration of prisoners, the system of deprivation of liberty, and the care of children at risk or in conflict with the law.
“Justice is the bedrock of our society, embodying our values of fairness, impartiality and the protection of rights,” President Faye said.
A presidential priority
The choice of “Reform and Modernisation of the Justice System” as the theme for the national dialogue reflects the importance President Faye attaches to this sector, according to the BIG.
As soon as he was sworn in on 2 April 2024, the BIG points out, the head of state expressed his desire to transform and strengthen the Senegalese justice system so that it would become independent.
In his first speech to the nation on 3 April 2024, he announced a conference on the justice system to improve this institution and reconcile it with the people.
