Senegal is making progress in the digitalisation of its health system with ten connected health facilities.
The digitalisation allows for better control of health data and improved patient care.
To help the country of Teranga digitise its health system, Belgian cooperation initiated the DIRECCT (Digital Response connecting Citizens) project from 2021 to 2024 in the central regions of Fatick, Kaffrine and Kaolack. This initiative
made it possible to digitise ten health centers and train 962 health workers in digital and technical skills, according to Stéfano Amekoudi, head of the DIRECCT project.
He spoke on Tuesday in Dakar during the Digital Impact Day which closed the activities of the said project, financed by the Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL).
“The DIRECCT project enabled the modernisation of the internet and the connectivity of ten health facilities. It has thus contributed to improving the quality of care, the management of health centers and the management of health
information,” explained Stefano Amekoudi.
He continued: “Today we have changes that are palpable. It is the doctors who told us how this system has improved the management of health centers. This system now allows for better patient care.”
For his part, Abdoulaye Ndiaye, Technical Advisor in charge of Social Action at the Ministry of Health and Social Action, argued that the digitalisation of health information is a major challenge that is in line with the development issues of the State of Senegal and technical and financial partners.
“Controlling health data is an essential important step in managing health issues. We have seen the achievements of this program and its good practices that will be capitalised on by the Ministry of Health and Social Action,” Mr. Ndiaye said.
