On Sunday, April 14th, the Kidira Customs Commercial Brigade intercepted a refrigerated truck at a checkpoint near the border. Acting on prior intelligence, officers meticulously scanned the seemingly empty vehicle, leading to the discovery of a cleverly concealed stash.
A press release from Senegalese Customs detailed the impressive haul: 1137.6 kilograms of cocaine, meticulously packaged and hidden within a specially constructed double floor in the truck. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is a staggering 90.96 billion CFA francs (approximately $162 million USD).
“This operation represents a significant victory in our ongoing fight against drug trafficking,” declared the Customs Communication and Public Relations Department. “We remain highly vigilant, and our units in the southeast region are fully mobilized to disrupt these criminal networks, following the directives set by the Director General.”
This record-breaking seizure comes on the heels of another successful operation by the Tambacounda subdivision just weeks earlier. On March 31st, customs officers in Koumpentoum confiscated nearly 92 kilograms of cocaine.
Senegalese authorities are displaying unwavering determination in their efforts to combat the flow of illegal narcotics through the country. This recent, massive cocaine bust serves as a testament to their commitment to safeguarding national security and public health.
