Four suspects were arrested on Wednesday in the suburbs of Dakar following a major operation that led to the seizure of illicit pharmaceutical products by the gendarmerie.
The territorial gendarmerie of Keur Massar, in the suburbs of Dakar, conducted a large-scale operation between Tuesday and Wednesday in collaboration with the Senegalese Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP). This operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of illegally marketed pharmaceutical products, APA learned on Thursday.
According to the gendarmerie’s statement, the investigation was triggered by a tip-off concerning the alleged involvement of a company named Plazza Cosmétiques, based in the Mame Dior neighbourhood of Keur Massar, in the unauthorised sale of dietary supplements and health products. The investigation revealed that the company also operated in other neighbourhoods of Dakar, including Ngor, HLM, and Parcelles Assainies.
On the instructions of the public prosecutor, a seizure operation was launched on January 8, involving the Keur Massar investigative unit and the ARP. Raids carried out at various points of sale led to the discovery of a large quantity of unapproved pharmaceutical products.
“Four (04) individuals were arrested and placed in custody for conspiracy, endangering public safety, possession and sale of health products without authorization, and illegal advertising of health products,” the statement read.
