Senegal’s President Macky Sall has announced an emergency employment scheme for young people in his country.

“The President of the Republic recalls the urgency of reorienting priorities around youth. He indicates, in this perspective, that over the period 2021-2023, in addition to salaried jobs and significant recruitments planned in several sectors, it is at least 350 billion CFA francs, which will be mobilized for the funding of young people and women,” a Council of Ministers said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The statement explained that these exceptional public resources will finance the first phase of the implementation of the Emergency Program for the employment and socio-economic integration of young people, at the rate of CFA150 billion for the year 2021, CFA100 billion for 2022 and CFA100 billion for 2023.
“In this regard, the Head of State urges the private sector, to develop a matching initiative to support the employment and integration of young people similar to the Convention ‘State – Employers’,” the statement added.
President Sall also instructed his government to step up general mobilization to speed up the creation of 45 district vocational training centers and 45 Youth and Citizenship Centers.
He also asked the ministers in charge of Employment and Youth, in collaboration with the Minister of Finance and Budget and the other ministers concerned, to prepare thoroughly for the holding, no later than April 10, 2021, the first National Council for the integration and employment of young people.
The Senegalese leader said “Fast Track” mode must more than ever be a reality in the implementation of PES projects and programs, and particularly the PSE/Youth.
He informed the Council that he would soon receive representatives of youth organizations and youth movements, the statement concluded.
