In a diplomatic overture, Comorian President Azali Assoumani was the first foreign leader to officially
congratulate the ruling party PASTEF on their victory in Senegal’s legislative elections.
This is the first message of congratulations to PASTEF from abroad. In an official statement published on X Monday, Comorian President Azali Assoumani sent his congratulations to the President of the Republic of
Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on the occasion of PASTEF’s electoral victory following the early legislative elections of November 17.
The Comorian president hailed an “electoral success achieved in a climate of peace and security,” calling the Senegalese democratic process an “example for the entire African continent.”
Azali Assoumani reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
“Our bonds of friendship and fraternity must be consolidated”, he declared, evoking closer collaboration in the future.
On Sunday, November 17, more than seven million Senegalese were called to the polls to renew the National Assembly.
According to initial trends, the party PASTEF is largely in the lead. The latter is led by the current Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, who was the head of the list during the elections.
Although he is a member of the party, President Faye left his position as Secretary General upon his accession to the presidency last March.
