This program aims to create a prosperous and equitable Senegal by 2034.
A Newcomer with Established Backing:
While Dia is a new face in national politics, he has the support of the well-established PUR party, led by the influential Sufi leader Serigne Moustapha Sy. Dia has been campaigning across the country, outlining his vision for a Senegal built on “equity, transparency, righteousness, unity, and respect for human dignity.”
Four Pillars for Development:
Dia’s plan rests on four key pillars:
Human Capital Development: This focuses on quality education, universal healthcare, women’s empowerment, improved living conditions, and cultural preservation.
Competitive and Sustainable Economy: This includes creating a business-friendly environment, supporting local entrepreneurs, strengthening agriculture, promoting environmentally friendly industries, and ensuring monetary sovereignty.
Governance, Peace, and Balanced Institutions: Strengthening democratic institutions, promoting social justice, consolidating peace, decentralizing for local development, and fostering strong international relations are key aspects here.
Inclusion and Social Protection: The PUR plans to introduce a robust social safety net, strengthen vulnerable households, and guarantee equitable access to basic services.
Accelerating Change:
Four strategies are proposed to accelerate progress:
Innovation and Digitalization: Leveraging technology to improve public services, boost private sector productivity, and enhance information flow.
Partnerships: Collaboration with universities, research centers, the private sector, and international partners to maximize impact.
Sustainable Funding: Mobilizing domestic and external resources, encouraging private sector investment, and adopting innovative financing approaches.
Energy Access: Developing solar power stations and modern electricity networks to guarantee nationwide access and promote socio-economic development.
Financing the Plan:
The PUR emphasizes that their plan does not rely on future oil and gas revenue. They propose a thorough assessment of existing contracts and a collaborative decision on resource use.
Aliou Mamadou Dia: A Seasoned Candidate:
Dia, 64, brings a wealth of experience to the table. His career with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) demonstrates his commitment to progress and stability in Africa. He has worked on initiatives from promoting democratic governance to managing crises in the Sahel, northeast Nigeria, and northern Cameroon.
Dia’s prior experience also includes research, university teaching, and leadership roles in climate change, resilience, and energy access projects. This background positions him as a candidate who combines international expertise with a deep understanding of local realities.
The PUR and Aliou Mamadou Dia offer a reformist vision for Senegal’s future. Their focus on human capital, a sustainable economy, strong governance, and social inclusion will resonate with voters seeking a path toward “Humanism and Prosperity.”
