On April 16th, the Tanaff Customs Station, located in the southern Kolda region, intercepted a staggering amount of counterfeit money – a total of five billion CFA francs (approximately $8 million) – in the town of Goudomp.
Following extensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tracking over several days, customs officers successfully apprehended four individuals – two Senegalese nationals and two foreigners – at a Goudomp lodge. These individuals were found in possession of the counterfeit bills, believed to be intended for laundering.
Just two days prior to the counterfeit currency bust, Senegalese customs made another major breakthrough in Kidira, near the Malian border. Economic soldiers seized a staggering 1.1 tonnes of cocaine, estimated to have a street value of 90 billion CFA francs (roughly $135 million).
These latest operations highlight the dedication and effectiveness of Senegalese customs authorities in combating international drug trafficking and financial crimes.
