The operation took place on March 24, 2023 in the suburbs of Dakar.
“Agents of the Bureau of Financial Investigation and the Fight against Illicit Trafficking (BITIS) have made a new seizure of black banknotes worth one billion CFA francs,” the Senegalese Customs Communication Office said.
It said the seizure took place at Cité Almadie 2 (Keur Massar), at the roundabout commonly known as Sedima.
“The intelligence network set up by the Directorate of Customs Investigations allowed BITIS agents to set up a tail that led to the arrest of four (04) people in flagrante delicto of black money transactions. The counterfeiters were carrying a package of black banknotes worth one billion CFA francs, carefully wrapped in plastic. The vehicle used for the transport was seized,” our source added in a communiqué dated March 28.
This seizure follows that made by BITIS agents in Thiès on 18 March, involving black banknotes worth two (2) billion CFA francs.
“The Customs Administration reaffirms its determination to combat organised crime linked to illicit financial flows, which constitute a real economic and security threat. It calls for the cooperation and support of the population,” the statement concluded.
