The February 24 presidential election, will be Senegal’s eleventh since independence from France in 1960.
Speaking in the capital Dakar on Wednesday, Interior Minister, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye said a proper conduct of the exercise is integral to the country’s democratic credentials.
“The provisions relating to the legal framework as well as those governing the implementation of preparatory operations are carried out in strict compliance with the legal deadlines, in accordance with the relevant legislation,” Ndiaye told election observers.
He said in accordance with the instructions of the country;s president, the stakeholders concerned by the organisation of the elections are encouraged to rigorously apply the instructions received and to report without delay on any difficulties encountered in their mission.
On the pre-electoral tensions witnessed during the campaign, the Interior Minister claimed that his country has always known how to transcend the anomalies inherent in any electoral process in the past.
“I can guarantee that this election will be conducted in a transparent manner and with respect for the rights of all candidates, with rigorous application of electoral legislation” he noted.
