The Senegalese Prime Minister said Monday evening that his government will continue major reforms aimed at
ensuring a sovereign, fair and prosperous Senegal.
Following the slight reshuffle of the government in Senegal, Ousmane Sonko gave a speech marked by the determination to continue the major reforms initiated, eight months after the arrival of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to power, with the promise of a systemic transformation of the West African country, through
mechanisms of sovereignty and justice.
“The government will tirelessly continue its actions to prepare for the future, to restore more confidence in young people who must learn, train, invest, live and succeed in Senegal,” stressed the Prime Minister, thanking the head of state for renewing his confidence in him, after the election of one of his ministers to head the national
assembly.
He stood at the Palace of the Republic alongside the Secretary General of the Presidency, Oumar Samba Ba, who read out the names of members of the government, with only two changes compared to the first team formed in April.
Malick Ndiaye, the new head of parliament, is replaced at the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport by his former colleague Yankhoba Dieme, until then Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions. The latter is replaced by MP Abass Fall, who led the departmental list of Dakar during the early
legislative elections of November 17, won by 130 seats out of 165 by the ruling party, PASTEF.
While he now has full powers, the president of PASTEF assures citizens that “the government will continue to mobilize to face economic and social emergencies.”
Ousmane Sonko emphasises the need to respond quickly to economic and social emergencies and commits to “ensuring the success of the agricultural marketing campaign, stepping up the fight against the high cost of living and improving the purchasing power of the Senegalese people.”
The head of government spoke of the importance of restoring public finances with the upcoming adoption of the 2025 Finance Act.
Optimising natural resources and reviving the national economy are also at the heart of the government’s agenda.
The ministers will continue to modernize health, education, agricultural and industrial systems, as well as promote youth employability and the economic empowerment of women. Particular attention will be paid to protecting vulnerable groups, including people living with disabilities, he promised.
In this regard, “the adoption of the law on economic sovereignty, based on the principle of patriotism, is urgent,” Ousmane Sonko added, specifying that this reform will promote national champions in various sectors and increase productivity.
“Our government will remain a government of solutions, achievements and results, to establish economic progress and the well-being of Senegalese women and men,” PM Sonko assured Senegalese.
