On his first trip to the United States for the Summit of the Future, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has attracted attention by multiplying meetings with several world leaders.
President Faye made his first trip to the United States since his inauguration on April 2, following his election on March 24. The trip provided an opportunity for a series of high-level meetings.
He arrived in New York on Saturday, September 21, and on Sunday he participated in the opening ceremony of the Summit of the Future, an event organised on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
At the same time, the Senegalese head of state received the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, in Dakar on Monday, September 23.
The two leaders underlined the importance of strengthening multilateralism to address global challenges. On this occasion, Senegal expressed its desire to deepen its cooperation with Luxembourg.
On the same day, President Faye met with the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo. Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, focusing on strategic sectors and shared values.
Another highlight of the day was President Faye’s meeting with Bill Gates. According to the Presidency, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Senegal and the Gates Foundation. The areas of cooperation envisaged include agriculture supported by artificial intelligence, sanitation and the use of digital technology to improve various sectors.
