APA-Abidjan (Ivory Coast) – Senegal’s new President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is making his first official visit to Cote d’Ivoire since his election on 24 March.
The plane carrying Senegal’s new head of state, landed at Abidjan’s Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport at 11:10 GMT local time on Tuesday 7 May 2024.
Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet and a cheering crowd gave him a rousing welcome.
The Senegalese leader arrived at the presidential palace at 12.23pm and was greeted by his Ivorian counterpart, Alassane Ouattara, after a military ceremony in his honour.
Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal are two West African countries with excellent relations.
President Ouattara was represented by his vice-president, Tiémoko Meyliet, at the investiture of Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Dakar on 2 April.
President Faye’s visit follows official trips to Mauritania, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
It is also on the heels of the accreditation of the new Ivorian ambassador to Senegal, Mamadou Haïdara, who was received by Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the presidential palace on 2nd May 2024.
