Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who has been nominated as African of the Year, will along with other well-known figures are expected to gather in Casablanca, Morocco’s economic capital, for the awards ceremony scheduled for February 27-28, 2025.
Senegalese President Bassirou Faye has been named African of the Year 2024 by African Leadership (ALM) magazine, for “his leadership role in African progress.”
The award, announced in a statement made available to APA on Monday, is the result of the rigorous selection process that included public nominations, pre-selection by an editorial committee and an online vote that mobilized a record number of participants across the continent and beyond.
President Bassirou Faye shares this recognition with other notable figures such as Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina, who was named African Political Leader of the Year, and Angolan President João Lourenço, who was named African Peace and Security Leader.
In his statement, Dr. Ken Giami, Editor-in-Chief of African Leadership, praised the outstanding contributions of the honourees, calling their leadership “a positive force on the continent.”
“Every nominee is a winner, but these honourees have distinguished themselves through their unwavering commitment to advancing Africa. We are proud to celebrate their impact,” he said.
For Bassirou Faye, this recognition confirms his vision and efforts to propel Senegal as a model for development and regional integration.
The Senegalese President has recently strengthened his position on issues of economic empowerment and food security, areas the magazine hails as crucial to the continent’s progress.
The awards will be officially presented at the 14th annual African Leadership Persons of the Year (POTY) ceremony, scheduled for February 27-28, 2025 in Casablanca, Morocco.
The event, which brings together public and private sector leaders each year, will feature high-level roundtable discussions, presentations on investment opportunities, and networking sessions.
With over 400 participants expected, this gathering is a unique platform to celebrate pan-African leadership focused on solutions to the continent’s major challenges.

Robinah Nabbanja, Ugandan Prime Minister, co-winner in the African Woman Leader of the Year category.
Mandefro Nigussie, CEO of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency, recognized as a Leader in Agricultural Development ans South African entrepreneur Bridgette Motsepe-Radebe named Industrialist of the Year.
