In Senegal, loan is granted by banks and decentralised financial services. This process is subject to rules that the General Directorate of the Financial Sector and the Directorate for the Regulation and Supervision of Decentralised Financial Systems are working to ensure are respected.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance and the Budget warned of fraudulent loan offers by “Ouest Crédit” and “SénéPrêt.” These two companies are “illegally offering to collect savings and grant loans,” the ministry said.
The department, headed by Mamadou Moustapha Ba, pointed out that “these practices, which have gone viral on social media, are a source of fraud among the public.”
As a result, according to the document, people are asked to stop all activities with the named institutions and, if necessary, to contact the General Directorate of the Financial Sector.
