The challenge comes amidst rising tensions between the two political figures, who have been prominent in Senegalese politics.
Sonko, who leads the ruling party (PASTEF), extended the invitation following Amadou Ba’s recent press conference in preparation for the upcoming legislative elections. Sonko highlighted the importance of a public dialogue to address key economic concerns, including public debt, budget deficit, taxation, land, mineral and energy resources, and the government’s Vision 2050.
Amadou Ba, who finished second in the last presidential election, has not yet responded to Sonko’s challenge. The debate, if it takes place, could shed light on the differing perspectives and approaches of these two influential political figures.
