The new government, led by Sonko, discovered alarming discrepancies between campaign promises and the reality of the nation’s financial situation.
In a statement, Sonko acknowledged the difficulty in engaging citizens in technical discussions about public finances but emphasized the urgent need for understanding the gravity of the situation. He revealed a significant gap between the announced public deficit and the actual figure, as well as a higher-than-reported public debt and the misuse of overfinancing funds.
The Prime Minister accused the former regime of lying and manipulating financial data, describing the situation as “extremely serious.” He called for a collective effort to address these challenges and meet the expectations of the Senegalese people.
Sonko announced that a new framework for public policies will be presented to the President on October 7th. He emphasized the importance of this inventory as a foundation for future development plans.
