The framework, a collaborative effort between the UN and the Government of Sierra Leone, outlines strategic priorities for achieving sustainable development goals.
The launch event, held at the Freetown International Conference Center, was attended by government officials, diplomats, and representatives from various organizations. Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh and UN Resident Coordinator Seraphine Wakana were among the dignitaries who signed the framework.
The UNSDCF aligns with Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan and aims to address key challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. The International Trade Centre (ITC) played a crucial role in developing the framework and highlighted its ongoing projects supporting small businesses in the country.
One notable example is Lion Food Snacks & Beverage, a local cassava producer that has benefited significantly from ITC’s support. Through the West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP), the company has improved its business practices, expanded its market reach, and generated increased revenue.
The launch of the UNSDCF marks a positive step for Sierra Leone and demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable development. By working together, the government and the UN can create a brighter future for the people of Sierra Leone.
