Sierra Leone’s Education Minister David Sengeh has been named the world’s best minister, receiving a hero’s welcome upon his return to the country, APA can report from Freetown on Tuesday.
The minister was cheered as he returned to the Education ministry in Freetown where he was received with fanfare by officials working under him.
Sengeh was adjudged to have won the world award at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Panelists for the award had reviewed the profiles of nine other finalists before settling for his.
The organisers say the dreadlocks-carrying Serra Leonean had left an ‘indelible imprint’ on schoolchildren in his country through his learning innovations.
Winners of the award are recognised for their exceptional performance in their respective sectors, especially in their implementation and promotion of new ideas that impact others positively.
Sengeh, a musician in his own right was appointed Education minister by President Julius Maada Bio in 2019.
Widely regarded as a trailblazer, he successfully provided children with laptops for their education in Sierra Leone’s Pujehun District.
