The deputy district commissioner in Lower Shabelle region, in southern Somalia has been killed by an explosion from a grenade, APA can report on Monday.
At least five people were wounded after gunmen raided Mohamed Abdullahi Kosto’s house in the town of Wanlaweyn late on Sunday.
Children were among the injured from the incident for which no group has claimed responsibility but security sources believe it is the handiwork of the militant group al-Shabaab.
The group which has sworn to overthrow the federal government and introduce a puritanical system of government, has been behind last month’s spate of attacks in the capital Mogadishu.
The latest attack happened shortly after security forces claimed they had killed a number of armed men thought to be affiliated to al-Qaeda in Somalia.
They said among those killed was Shabaab’s regional treasurer.
