South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province was plunged into a period of mourning on Monday night following a deadly three-vehicle clash that claimed 18 lives.
The tragic accident occurred on the N3 highway near Van Reenen’s Pass just after 8pm local time (1800 GMT).
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane confirmed that the collision involved a truck, a taxi and another vehicle.
“A truck, minibus and light motor vehicle involved in a multiple vehicle crash that resulted in 18 fatalities, (13 adults and five children), and one seriously injured baby,” Zwane said.
The cause of the crash is unknown and will be subject to investigation by the RTMC and police, he added.
