South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mosotho Moepya as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) with effect from Saturday, the presidency has announced.
Moepa has served as a full-time member of the Electoral Commission since 2018 after holding various senior positions in the organisation since 1998, according to the high office.
He replaces Glen Mashinini, whose seven-year term ended in April this year, the presidency added.
The IEC is responsible for holding elections in the country, including the general elections to be held in 2024 to usher in a new government.
