The meeting, held in Uganda’s Koboko district, aimed at promoting bilateral relations and security management within the border areas.
Koboko district chairman, Nyinya Hassan Sayid told the media that the meeting also aimed at strengthening unity, trade and stable security at its borders with neighbouring South Sudan.
“This meeting is very important to boost our unity, trade and working relations so that people can live together and co-exist peacefully. It also aims at boosting security at the two border points,” he said.
The Information minister of South Sudan’s Yei River State (south), Azariah Duku Enocka said the meeting addressed border security issues.
“The meeting was all about promoting social cohesiveness and peoples from both areas will benefit from trade and this will help the neighboring counties and districts manage security issues,” he said.
Commissioners of Morobo, Kupera, Lujulo, Kajo-Keji and Liwolo counties in Yei River State and the Resident District Commissioners of Arua, Maracha, Koboko, Yumbe, Adjumani and Moyo in Uganda attended the meeting.
This was the first time authorities from South Sudan and neighbouring Uganda held a border security meeting since the turn of the new year.
