A joint operation between Spain and Morocco has led to the arrest of an individual suspected of being linked to the Islamic State (IS).
In early February, three other suspects were arrested in the Spanish province of Toledo following intelligence provided by Moroccan authorities regarding a group in the advanced stages of radicalisation.
The Spanish Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Moroccan Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), captured a man suspected of being linked to the Islamic State (IS) in Córdoba,
southern Spain. Investigators revealed that the suspect managed social media accounts to disseminate violent jihadist propaganda, contributing to the promotion of IS ideology.
Spanish authorities have described the individual as a “potential threat to public security” due to his persistent dissemination of extremist literature.
They also highlighted the close cooperation between Spanish and Moroccan intelligence services, which led to the arrest, highlighting the effectiveness of regional and international partnerships in the fight against terrorism.
However, the authorities did not reveal the suspect’s identity or the specific charges against
him.
The arrest is part of a series of European Union initiatives aimed at combating extremist content online and strengthening cross-border security.
