The peace deal is five months behind schedule due to lack of funds.
The government of South Sudan has been calling on donors to fund efforts to implement the peace process.
Peter Mayen Majongdit, a member of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) tasked with the oversight and coordination of the implementation of the activities of the pre-transitional period, confirmed the donations.
He pointed out that the money was raised at a fundraising event held in the capital Juba on Wednesday.
“We managed to get 554 million SSP and 500,000 USD. The money was donated by South Sudanese for the peace process,” he said.
Mayen said the donations would boost the commitments made by the peace partners to implement the revitalised peace deal.
He added the donations were demonstration of the commitment of the South Sudanese business community to supporting peace in the country.
He revealed that similar fundraising events will be organised in the states.
“We are really committed to this peace agreement,” he said.
South Sudan’s government had approved a budget of $280 million for the implementation of the revitalised peace deal.
