The Sudanese government has announced a curfew across the country from 8am to 6pm to support prevention measures against the coronavirus pandemic .
The decision is active from Tuesday. The national High Committee which took the order was formed shortly after the country’s registered its first Covid-19 death two weeks ago.
“Fellow citizens, we know there’s no medicine or vaccine against this pandemic, and the only medicine is prevention of gatherings and commitment to stay at home order”. said the Committee in a statement released late Monday.
The decision also banned travel bus from and to regions across the country and called on citizens to obey medical and security orders.
The Committee acknowledged that some citizens who were abroad sneaked in the country without being tested or leaving their contacts and addresses.
“The Health ministry is working to learn their address and circle of movements for precautionary measures,” the statement said.
Sudan so far has two confirmed cases of coronavirus. The one is a Sudanese citizen who died, and the other is a Spanish national working for the United Nations. He is at a hospital getting treatment in Khartoum while 17 suspects cases, all of them were abroad.
All borders of Sudan have been closed while flights and foreign nationalities banned since the first case was announced in the country.
