A church in Sudan’s second largest city Omdurman was bombed by the Sudanese armed forces in violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits hostile acts against places of worship.
The Church of St. Mary and St. George in Omdurman was the target of heavy bombardment by the Sudanese armed forces and armed groups affiliated with them.
Military planes also attacked populated areas in Omdurman, south of Khartoum and Bahri, killing and injuring dozens of innocent citizens, including children.
A statement issued by the official spokesman of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) regretted the incident that left several worshippers seriously injured, calling for an independent investigation into this regrettable incident and the violations that have taken place lately.
According to the same statement, the Rapid Support Forces are ready to assume any responsibility in case this is proven against any member of the RSF.
It added that what happened was simply targeting the Rapid Support Forces, which includes among its members several people of Christian faith, stressing that this operation is an attempt by the Sudanese armed forces to cover up their failure on the ground and widen the circle of the war.
This incident of the church coincided with ethnic liquidations aimed at destroying the social fabric, including the assassination of the director of information and public relations of the Football Federation, Amir Hasballah.
According to the statement, the planes of the Sudanese armed forces had carried out aerial attacks on many areas of Khartoum wilaya, including the destruction of the satellite station of Abi Haraz in Jabal Al-Aouliyaa.
