APA-Dodoma (Tanzania) A new state house has been inaugurated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in the outskirts of the Tanzanian capital Dodoma.
The inauguration of the new state-of-the-art complex took place on 20th May in front of notable state officials.
The brand new State House was financed by government and built by local technicians to the tune of three billion Tanzanian shillings, sparking off a debate about the worthiness of the project which has divided opinion in a country grappling with torrid economic times.
Soe criticisms of it suggest it was perhaps mre suitable for a school than anything else.
According to records, the former regime had allocated over three billion Tanzanian shillings – which converts to an estimated Ksh175 million for the project.
According to some uncorroborated accounts the new state house may be ”200 times bigger than the current state building located in Dar es Salaam”.
Sitting on 8,473 acres of space, construction work began on July 25, 2016, after late President John Magufuli convinced the Chama Cha Mapinduzi General Meeting about transforming Dodoma as the new capital.
The Tanzanian leader described the new edifice as a great historical monument for his country coming exactly fifty years after it was decided to move the nation’s capital from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma.
She reminisced that the move was approved by the Central Council of the Tanzania African National Union (TANU) in 1973.
The frontage of the magnificent white build was adorned with the photos of Tanzania’s six presidents since independence beginning with founding leader Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and ending with Ms. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Tanzania’s founding president Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere and his late successor John P. Magufuli were posthumously awarded special plaques in recognition of their contributions towards building the new State House.
