The President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyane, said on Wednesday that his country was committed to preserving peace and stability in its region and the world.
“The UAE state will continue to defend peace and stability in its region and the rest of the world, supporting others and advocating wisdom and cooperation for the sake of humanity,” Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyane said in a speech delivered two months after his election as president following the death of his half-brother Sheikh Khalifa.
He also pledged to continue working “to strengthen cooperation and enable positive and respectful dialogue between countries to achieve stability and prosperity for all.”
“Since its inception, the UAE has built strong relationships with countries around the world, based on solid pillars of openness and constructive cooperation. This has earned our country a regional and international reputation, thanks to the efforts of our young men and women, of which we are very proud,” he went on to say.
In this regard, the Emirati leader promised to strengthen his country’s role “among the world’s leading countries in providing humanitarian assistance and continuing to reach out to communities in need around the world, regardless of religion or race.”
On the energy front, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyane said Wednesday that his country would remain a “reliable” supplier of energy as the oil market remains tight.
“We will also continue to consolidate our country’s position as a reliable energy supplier and support global energy security as a fundamental driver of global economic growth and development,” he said.
The UAE president called energy “the backbone of economic growth and development.” Crude oil prices have soared as a result of the war in Ukraine led by Russia since February, fueling runaway inflation around the world.
Since its inception, the UAE has adopted a successful policy and distinguished relations with all countries of the world based on peace and mutual respect, and non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs.
The UAE plays a central role in trying to contain the many situations of tension, crises and disputes that arise, whether within the region or outside, and has consistently sought to strengthen its various direct and indirect programs of humanitarian and developmental aid and economic assistance to many developing countries, especially those experiencing conflict situations or natural disasters.
The country has also contributed to numerous peacekeeping, civilian protection and reconstruction operations in conflict areas, placing it in a leading position in achieving the noble goals of maintaining and stabilizing international peace and security.
In this regard, the UAE peace efforts in the Horn of Africa culminated in the historic peace agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia on July 25, 2018, which paved the way for the resumption of relations between the two countries and contributed to enhancing security and stability in the two countries in particular and in the Horn of Africa and the region in general.
Also, the UAE sponsored, after 17 years of conflict, a peace agreement reached between the transitional government in Sudan and the Revolutionary Front in South Sudan.
The UAE also signed a peace agreement with Israel, by which Israel pledges to stop its annexation plans in the occupied West Bank. This agreement did not come at the expense of the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, which is an important achievement and step towards intensifying efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict.
