It was a home fixture for the Scorpions whose Independence Stadium home venue is under a FIFA ban due to poor infrastructure.
The stadium built in the 1980s has been undergoing a radical facelift since the ban two years ago, neccessitating the national football team to play its home matches away in Morocco.
Gamfoot reports that ”thieves targeted players of The Gambia football team, who left their 1500 euro camping allowance money in their hotel before the game in Morocco”.
The report adds that ”upon returning from the game, several players discovered their money had been stolen…one player expressed disbelief at the theft, while another was relieved that their money was safe”.
