The production of green hydrogen opens up new economic and environmental prospects in line with Morocco’s energy transition objectives.
TotalEnergies is making great strides in its ambitious project to produce green hydrogen and ammonia in Morocco.
On July 12, the company’s Moroccan subsidiary, TotalEnergies Renewables Maroc AssetCo (TERMA), received an injection of nearly one billion euros, or approximately 10.7 billion dirhams.
This gigantic project, with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW), will cover a vast area of 170,000 hectares in the southern provinces of Morocco.
Combining wind and solar energy, this initiative aims to make Morocco a leader in renewable energy and the green economy.
The increase in TERMA’s capital from 9 million dirhams to over 10.7 billion dirhams will be phased in over three years, in parallel with the implementation of the project.
This massive injection of funds represents not only a strong commitment on the part of TotalEnergies, but also a clear signal of the company’s confidence in Morocco’s potential for the development of sustainable energy.
The release of the first tranche of financing underlines TotalEnergies’ determination to make this strategic project a reality.
It also coincides with the efforts of the Moroccan authorities to facilitate the release of the land required for this major initiative.
The choice of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region is not insignificant, as it offers ideal climatic conditions for the production of solar and wind energy.
This investment reflects TotalEnergies’ commitment to diversify its energy sources and reduce its carbon footprint in response to global environmental challenges.
For Morocco, this collaboration represents an important opportunity to strengthen its position as a renewable energy hub in Africa.
The country is already internationally recognized for its sustainable development and clean energy initiatives.
