Morocco has overtaken South Africa as the number two tourist destination in Africa, just behind Egypt, according to the report by Bloom Consulting/
In its latest report “Country Brand Ranking/Tourism Edition 2024-2025″, the Spanish consultancy, Bloom Consulting has awarded Morocco an important milestone by placing it second in the African tourism rankings.
This is the first time that Morocco has overtaken South Africa, now just behind Egypt, and consolidates its reputation as a leading tourism destination on the continent.
The report highlights Morocco’s impressive progress, attributing it to advances in social media engagement, online performance and overall destination appeal.
Meanwhile, South Africa has dropped to third place, underlining Morocco’s growing importance as a must-visit destination.
The report also highlights Morocco’s resilience in the face of challenges, including last year’s devastating earthquake.
The country’s resilience in the face of challenges, such as the recent earthquake in September 2023, will be crucial in shaping its future tourism landscape and will provide relevant data for the analysis of future rankings,” the report said.
Bloom Consulting ranks destinations based on criteria such as tourism receipts, search engine queries, website performance and social media presence.
Twenty of the 35 major African destinations evaluated showed improvements. Sao Tome and Principe moved up 8 places, while Côte d’Ivoire, boosted by the 2024 African Cup of Nations, moved up 11 places in the rankings.
