Two Ivorian sentries (a gendarme and a forestry officer) were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen on the Tiemesson security post, located on the Duekoue-Bangolo road in the west of the country.
The attack took place at around 4:00 am (GMT, local time) on Wednesday at the Tiemesson mixed checkpoint, 09 km from Guehiebly (22 km on the Duekoue-Bangolo road), a military source said.
The checkpoint, comprising four elements of the gendarmerie and one of the water and forestry service, was “fired upon by people on two motorcycles,” the military source said.
Elements of the territorial legion and the two squadron platoons of the town of Man were rushed to the scene to carry out a sweep and determine the nature of the attack on the army post.
Cote d’Ivoire was the target of two attacks on the night of March 28-29, 2021, targeting two army positions on the border with Burkina Faso, namely in Kafolo and Kolobougou.
These simultaneous attacks killed six people, including three soldiers from the regular army and three of the attackers.
They took place less than a year after an armed assault in Kafolo on June 11, 2020.
Investigations into this latest attack will help determine the nature of these raids in the west of the country.
