The conference of heads of state and government of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) on Thursday set the validity period for Covid-19 screening tests, within the community space, at five days, at the end of its 22nd virtual Ordinary Session.
On the situation of the health crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic, the member states of the Union adopted the main recommendations pertaining to the cross-border facilitation of people and goods.
In this regard, the conference set at “five days, from the date of the sample, the period of validity of screening tests on member states’ airports entry and departure.”
The conference also decided on the mutual recognition of the results of Covid-19 tests carried out by the national bodies authorized in the UEMOA space, to prevent populations from doing multiple tests.
It set the cost of the Covid-19 screening test at “25,000 CFA francs for travelers using air transport from May 1, 2021,” while encouraging the gradual reopening of land borders in compliance with the required health requirements.
“In due course, the cost of screening for Covid-19 will be set at 5,000 CFA francs for travelers using land routes,” the regional bloc announces, urging all member states to implement national anti-Covid-19 immunization strategies for target people.
