Uganda’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), have released a group of six Rwandese nationals who were detained on suspicion of alleged spying for their native country before their deportation, local media reported Wednesday in Kigali.
Reports said the six men, all native from Nyagatare, a district in North Eastern used to cross the border for temporary employment in neighboring Uganda was detained since late January this year at Ntungamo prison located in Western Uganda.
All six deported Rwandese nationals from Uganda confessed having met several hundred of compatriots who are also detained at the same prison, the vernacular newspaper Igihe reported while quoting a senior Immigration official at the border with Uganda.
Since February this year, Rwandan officials issued a travel advisory warning people against visiting Uganda.
Officials in Kigali also accused neighboring Uganda of incarcerating dozens of its citizens without consular access, and deportation.
In addition, Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Dr Richard Sezibera has charged that Kampala sabotages trade by frustrating the conveyance of goods transiting through Uganda to Rwanda.
It was the fourth time that Rwanda openly accused Uganda of sabotaging trade with its neighbour, in addition to mistreating Rwandans in Uganda.
