Uganda is to deport a Chinese national convicted for rebranding and trying to sell drugs meant for free distribution by the government in Kampala.
Liu Weiliang was found with antibiotics donated by the Indian government for treating Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis and Meningitis.
He was this week convicted by a Uganda court for selling expired drugs after pleading guilty to the offence.
Court found Liu guilty on two counts of supply of restricted drugs and operating a pharmacy without licence contrary to the National Drug Authority Act.
Samuel Kyomukama from Uganda’s National Drug Authority, Liu Weiliang who was arrested during an operation by Uganda’s Health Ministry in collaboration with the National Drug Authority and Uganda Police Force is suspected to be working with a racket of some Ugandan nationals to change the date of expired drugs and sell them to the unsuspecting Uganda public.
According to the National Drug Authority, the suspect would rub the expiry date on the package of drugs and give them a new date before distributing them to his unsuspecting victims.
Kyomukama, says the Chinese national will be deported to China and never be allowed to step foot in Uganda ever again.
