President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda was sworn-in on Wednesday, May 12, for the sixth consecutive term.
In power for 35 years, Yoweri Museveni was re-elected in January with more than 58 percent of the valid votes cast. But his victory is still contested by his main opponent, Bobi Wine.
In front of 4,000 guests gathered at Kampala Independence Park, the 76-year-old head of state promised, among other things, to preserve the Constitution and to work for the prosperity of his country. Ten African presidents, including Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, graced the inauguration ceremony with their presence.
