On a visit to Abidjan, British Armed Forces Minister James Heappey assured that his country will continue to collaborate with Cote d’Ivoire to guarantee the country’s security against terrorism.
Britain will “continue to collaborate to ensure the security of Cote d’Ivoire,” which is threatened by terrorism in the West African region, said Mr. James Heappey, after a meeting with the Ivorian Minister of Security and Interior, General Vagondo Diomandé.
In view of the efforts of the Ivorian state on terrorism issues, the British Minister of the Armed Forces said he was “very encouraged to be able to work with Cote d’Ivoire, bilaterally and multilaterally” to address this phenomenon in the Sahel with a “priority to the South.”
On behalf of the Minister of State, Diomandé welcomed this visit as part of cooperation in defense and security.
“We understood that by putting together our efforts, we will succeed in fighting terrorism effectively,” said General Diomandé, who thanked his host for “this opportunity to ensure that the United Kingdom accompanies Cote d’Ivoire.”
The United Kingdom is committed to supporting the State of Cote d’Ivoire in the fight against terrorism, but also in the fight against drugs and crime.
General Diomandé said he was “very sensitive to this approach,” stating that the Ivorian side will do everything to ensure that Britain’s expectations are met. And this, with an institutional support declined in several orders, among others, training and equipment.
