In a statement released on Wednesday in the capital Lilongwe, the department said the support will help WFP provide cash transfers to over 100 people access food until the end of March.
“We would like these people who have lost everything to meet their immediate needs during these difficult times,” said the statement.
The government in London will continue supporting Malawi and the government and its people should know that they are in the thoughts of the UK in these trying times.
The UK has responded to the recent call by Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika who declared the southern part of his country a disaster area.
Others who responded and are providing support to the disaster victims in Malawi include China, the United States and South Africa among others.
