Alain Noudehou of Benin has been appointed the new UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Mali.
He was appointed on April 28 by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Deputy Special Representative within the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Alain Noudehou will combine this function with those of Resident Coordinator and Coordinator of UN humanitarian Action in the West African country.
He succeeds Ms. Mbaranga Gasarabwe of Rwanda, whose term ends in May 2021.
“Mr. Noudehou brings to his new post extensive experience in the fields of international development and humanitarian affairs, having recently served as Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Resident Coordinator and Coordinator of Humanitarian Action in South Sudan,” MINUSMA says.
He has held the positions of Chief of Staff and Director of the Executive Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York; UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in China from 2014-2016.
Alain Noudehou was also UN Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Zimbabwe from 2010-2014.
Before joining the UN, Mr. Noudehou held, from 1996 to 2002, several management positions within “CHF International Inc.”, an international non-governmental organization which has since been renamed “Global Communities, Partners for Good.”
He holds an MA in Politics and Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, and a BA in Architecture from Tsinghua University, China.
He speaks French, English and Chinese.
