APA-Juba (South Sudan) – The UN has also released $10 million in aid to respond to the massive influx of people fleeing conflict in a neighbouring country.
The mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has been extended for another year by the UN Security Council.
The resolution, adopted by 13 votes in favour and two abstentions, extends the mission’s mandate until 30 April 2025, while maintaining its core objectives of protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian assistance and supporting the implementation of the revitalised agreement on the settlement of the conflict in the country and the peace process.
The UN has also responded to the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, releasing $10 million in aid to respond to the massive influx of people fleeing the conflict in Sudan.
The funds will be used to build shelters, provide financial assistance, improve health and sanitation infrastructure, and provide logistical support to new arrivals at overcrowded transit sites.
