UN Secretary-General Antonio Giuterres has welcomed the signing of last week’s political agreement between the government and opposition parties in Bamako, which was followed by the formation of an inclusive cabinet on Sunday.
In a statement through his spokesperson earlier on Monday Guterres praised the leadership of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta for the successful conclusion of the consultations that produced the political agreement and a renewed commitment to implement the 2015 peace agreement.
He also welcomed what he called the constructive contribution of opposition parties in this regard.
The UN scribe urged all Malian stakeholders, including signatories to the 2015 agreement to redouble their efforts to address the challenges facing the country through the full implementation of the deal, including the completion of the constitutional review process.
He also reiterated the United Nations commitment to continue to support the people and the government of Mali in their quest for lasting peace and stability.
