The United Nations System Coordinator in Guinea-Bissau, David Mclachlan-Karr announced that the UN Security Council will discuss in February the renewal and possible reduction of the presence of the Office of the United Nations for Peacebuilding in Guinea-Bissau (UNIOGBIS).
The new UNIOGBIS team should focus its work more on monitoring the country’s situation, Mclachlan-Karr told reporters after meeting with Guinea-Bissau President José Mario Vaz to whom he submitted his letter of credence.
The new UN rep confirmed that he had discussed with President Vaz about the country’s development challenges and how the UN system could collaborate with the private sector and all the cooperation agencies in Guinea-Bissau.
This is with a view to facilitating progress which the country needs, he added.
