The alert over an unprecedented kerosene shortage in Senegal’s airports was made by the Aviation Fuel Handling Company (SMCADY) in charge of supply.

In a press release issued on Monday evening, SMCADY announced that “aircraft refueling operations will not be able to continue as of Wednesday, April 20 at 12:00, for a provisional period of two weeks.”
The company cited an “unfavorable international situation, combined with unprecedented tensions on the price of certain raw materials.”
However, “exceptional exemptions” may be granted by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANACIM) to “meet operational constraints of certain air carriers.”
The management of Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) is asking airlines to make arrangements to transport their return fuel.
This is a situation that is not without consequences for the latter, which, in addition to carrying less luggage, must ensure the autonomy of their return flights with an overload of fuel at departure.
However, this shortage of kerosene over the next two weeks should not disturb the national airline Air Senegal.
In a press release, it has taken all necessary measures to continue its flights during this period.
This tension in the supply of hydrocarbons is strongly linked to the international situation with the war in Ukraine.
Russia, the world’s second largest oil exporter, has reduced its production, causing the price of a barrel to soar above 100 dollars.
This shortage of kerosene could lead to a shortage of fuels, especially gasoline and diesel, which have been unavailable for several days in several gas stations in Dakar.
