Florian Bucher is the new CEO of the Holberton School network whose goal is to increase its number of schools in Africa and to position the institution as the global leader in IT education.
Bucher on October 1st took over the management of Holberton School, the network of schools specializing in the training of high-level IT developers around the world.
Founded in Silicon Valley, Holberton Schools since 2019 have been based in the African countries of Tunisia, South Africa and Libya.
”Convinced that an alternative to the current educational system is necessary and possible, Florian Bucher is taking over the project undertaken by Julien Barbier since 2015 in California. His ambition is to reinforce the level of technical but also social and behavioral skills of future developers trained in the existing Holberton Schools and all those that will be created in the coming years” a statement from the school to APA says.
“Our commitment to students at our campuses in Africa is to provide them with a quality education “Made in Silicon Valley”; that is, an education that is identical to that of our other institutions around the world, in Tulsa, Paris or Tunis. The mission of the Holberton network is to promote education and training as a lever for economic and social development. We are very enthusiastic about the idea of accompanying the people who make the code of today and who participate in the construction of the world of tomorrow,” says Bucher.
An Epitech alumnus, Bucher has extensive international experience in the tech and education sectors.
Previously, Florian was CTO of Ionis Institute of Technology (EPITECH, EPITA) before co-founding 42 in 2013.
He joined Holberton, as COO, in 2020.
Since its creation and with 24 campuses around the world, including three on the African continent, Holberton School has been offering high-level training to more than 400 students in Africa and more than 3,500 worldwide.
The programmes of excellence are created by experts from Silicon Valley and among them is the Machine Learning programme, whose content has been approved and validated by Oleksandra Fedorova, ML software engineer at Google.
”The Holberton School network’s training courses thus meet the technical and interpersonal expectations and requirements of the world’s largest companies. This is evidenced by the extensive alumni network of entrepreneurs and engineers at Google, Meta, Nvidia, and other international tech giants” the statement said.
Under its new CEO, Holberton School’s ambition is to accelerate its development while assuming its social responsibility in the training of IT talents.
By 2025, the network hopes to double the number of physical locations by relying on an increasing number of local and international partners.
Holberton School’s network of high-quality, Silicon Valley-created programs is educating the tech talent of tomorrow through a disruptive, collaborative, and hands-on methodology.
Since the launch of its first cohort in 2016 in San Francisco, more than 3,500 students have joined Holberton School at its 24 campuses around the world (5 in Europe, 13 in the Americas, 3 in Africa, 1 in the Middle East, and 2 in Oceania). Holberton School also operates as a white label or franchise to make high-quality education available to those interested everywhere.
