This came after U.S. Charge d’Affaires Steven Koutsis visited on Sunday the member of the opposition communist party, Sadig Yossif , in his home in Omdurman, on occasion of his release
the 88-year-old ,was freed last week after he was held in detonation for (88) days by Sudan Security forces.
“We remain troubled by the Government of Sudan’s continued use of extra-judicial detentions in response to the largely peaceful protests in Khartoum and elsewhere”, said US Embassy in Khartoum in a statement.
“Incarcerating opposition party leaders, civil society activists, and journalists contradicts the Government of Sudan’s call for an open and inclusive dialogue on Sudan’s future”, it added.
“We again call on the Government of Sudan to establish a productive, non-violent response to the protests and to pursue a constructive dialogue on political transition” ,it concluded.
Over 2000 reportedly arrested since nationwide protests started against the president Omer al-Bashir in mid December following raise of bread prices.
Last year, Sudan and US engaged in talks to remove the first name from Terror list
Sudan was put in the list in 1993.
