APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The US Agency for International Development (USAID) Wednesday launched a $12mln project to support Ethiopia’s efforts to build a resilient health system.
The project will be implemented jointly by a US-based non-profit advisory Management Sciences for Health (MSH), and Ethiopian Red Cross Society together with the government.
“The activity would help accelerate our efforts in public health emergency prevention, preparedness and response,” Ethiopian Health Minister Lia Tadesse, Ethiopian Health Minister said during the launching event.
Tadesse joined USAID Ethiopia Acting Mission Director Timothy Stein to launch the five-year project. The launch was also attended by representatives from regional health bureaus and public health institutes, along with development partners, who called for strengthening a community-level health system across the east African nation.
“The coordination of all development partners in the Public Health Emergency Management space is paramount to achieving these goals of the project,” noted Stein in his remarks.
The $12 million project will provide leadership development and training on data use for early warning, preparedness, and response planning. Concurrent trainings will also focus on mobilizing local resources at times of emergency, the USAID says.
