Although the official result of the election has not been declared by the Electoral Commission (EC), the former President, John Mahama, and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says that Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, has called to congratulate him on his victory in the 2024 general elections.
According local media reports on Sunday, Dr Bawumia’s conceding of defeat followed the provisional results from Saturday’s polls pointed to an emphatic win for Mahama.
Bawumia therefore announced his decision to concede, recognising the will of the people and the need to foster unity and maintain calm in the country.
Mahama wrote in his X on Sunday that he received this morning, “a congratulatory call from my brother Dr @MBawumia, following my emphatic victory in Saturday’s election. Thank you, Ghana.”
He noted that the gesture underscores a commitment to democracy and sets the tone for a smooth transition as Ghana prepares for new leadership.
Meanwhile, the Natioanl Peace Council (NPC) has commended Vice President Mohamudu Bawunia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for conceding defeat in line with his pledge to the NPC pack.
In a statement on Sunday the NPC congratulated the president-elect, John Mahama for accepting the concession speech by Vice President Bawumia ,
It said that it had witnessed the concession speech by the vice president.
“As we await the official declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission, the NPC encourages all parties and their supporters to remain calm to keep the peace of the country,” the statement said.
