On an official visit to Ouagadougou for the 125th anniversary of evangelisation in Burkina Faso, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin met with President Ibrahim Traoré on Monday to discuss bilateral cooperation between the Holy See and Burkina Faso.
During his stay, Cardinal Parolin also held talks with the Burkinabe Foreign Minister, who presented an overview of the current situation in Burkina Faso and the wider Alliance of Sahel States (AES). The minister expressed gratitude for the Vatican’s continuous support, particularly through prayers and socio-economic development initiatives.
Emphasising the Vatican’s commitment to Burkina Faso’s stability, Cardinal Parolin stated that his visit was intended to send a message to the world that Burkina Faso is a country worth engaging with.
“This visit is the Holy See’s way of telling the world that Burkina Faso exists and that it needs ‘selfless’ friends,” said the Vatican’s Secretary of State.
He further stressed the Vatican’s support for efforts aimed at restoring the dignity of the Burkinabe people, reaffirming that Africa is the future of the world and that it deserves stronger development efforts.
