In addition to the sporting aspect and the media exposure, a qualification to a football world cup brings a lot of money.
The five representatives of Africa at the next World Cup in Qatar, will receive a nice amount of money from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). The world football governing body will allocate a total of 39 billion CFA francs to the African teams that will go to Qatar.
Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana will each receive 7 billion 800 million CFA francs (11.9 million euros) of participation bonuses.
An amount different from the gains that a selection can make according to its course in the competition which is usually played every four years. But this 22nd edition in Qatar will take place exceptionally for climatic reasons from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
These 7 billion 800 million will be paid in two installments. A first transfer of two billion will be made for each African selection to enable it to prepare in the best conditions for the World Cup. The second instalment will be given in case of elimination during the competition.
For comparison, Senegal, the African champion in Cameroon last February, received a little less than 2 billion 800 million CFA francs from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). For a third participation in the World Cup, the premium received from CAF is almost triple.
As for the victory bonus promised to the winner of the next World Cup, it has also been increased in the last two editions of 2014 in Brazil and 2018 in Russia.
The winner France in Moscow had pocketed a reward of 32.2 million euros, while Croatia finalist of the event had received 23.7 million euros. The third-place winner received 20.3 million euros, and the fourth-place winner received 18.6 million euros. The quarter-finalists received 13.5 million euros each and 10.1 million euros for the eighth-finalists.
